I've always been an insomniac but everytime I stay awake, its because of my own doing! These past few days, the construction that has been going on at the back of my room has been waking me up during wee hours in the morning and it's not right anymore! Whoever allowed anyone to put up a building so close to a residential area is not doing their job and is not thinking! Worse, it is going to be a paper factory and I know it's nowhere near getting 100% silence in the morning! This sucks big time! I've been trying to call the Baranggay office just to find out that it's too early for them to be in their offices! I will sue the man who put up a building at the back of my room if I had the chance because of all the hours that he took from me to get my well deserved rest! Doesn't he know that sleep deprivation can cause permanent damage to my body and to my emotional stability? Read ON!
Sleep deprivation can have serious effects on your health in the form of physical and mental impairments. Inadequate rest impairs our ability to think, handle stress, maintain a healthy immune system and moderate our emotions. In fact, sleep is so important to our overall health that total sleep deprivation has been proven to be fatal: lab rats denied the chance to rest die within two to three weeks.
Maintaining good health in today’s society often depends upon just how well your health insurance coverage applies to your lifestyle and needs. A little effort can save you a lot of money…compare the offers of several health insurance programs and choose the one that’s best for you.
Without adequate rest, the brain's ability to function quickly deteriorates. The brain works harder to counteract sleep deprivation effects, but operates less effectively: concentration levels drop, and memory becomes impaired.
Similarly, the brain's ability to problem solve is greatly impaired. Decision-making abilities are compromised, and the brain falls into rigid thought patterns that make it difficult to generate new problem-solving ideas. Insufficient rest can also cause people to have hallucinations. Other typical effects of sleep deprivation include:
•depression
•heart disease
•hypertension
•irritability
•slower reaction times
•slurred speech
•tremors.
In this section, we will outline and examine the various effects of sleep deprivation. Our articles will describe how prolonged lack of sleep affects both mental and physical health.
Sleep & Aging
The older we get, the more likely it is that we will suffer from some kind of sleep disorder. In fact, over 50 percent of people over 64 years old suffer from some type of sleep disorder. While the hormonal and physical changes that occur as we age will likely affect sleep, especially in menopausal women, the increased presence of other medical conditions and disorders is also a factor that tends to upset the sleep of the elderly.
One of the biggest sleeping problems the elderly experience is the inability to get deep, restorative sleep. Although they tend to sleep just as much as they did when they were younger, the elderly don’t get as quality sleep, meaning that they often suffer from fatigue and daytime drowsiness. The main reason for this is that older people don’t get as much REM sleep, the deepest, most restorative sleep phase. Keep reading to learn more about the relationship between sleep and aging.
Weight Changes
Dramatic weight changes, especially weight gain, are also common effects of sleep deprivation. Because the amount and quality of the sleep we get affects our hormone levels, namely our levels of leptin and ghrelin, many physiological processes that depend on these hormone levels to function properly, including appetite, are affected by our sleep.
Leptin is a hormone that affects our feelings of fullness and satisfaction after a meal, and ghrelin is the hormone that stimulates our appetites. When you suffer from sleep deprivation, your body’s levels of leptin fall and ghrelin levels increase. This means that you end up feeling hungrier without really feeling satisfied by what you eat, causing you to eat more and, consequently, gain weight. Keep reading to learn more about how sleep affects your weight.

So you see, it can cause big damage to me and my family so I have the right to protest! I will hold their construction site hostage if they don't stop! Or throw things out my window just for them to stop! SIGH I have a feeling it is going to be a bad day today because I'm in no mood to perk up because of the noise...Wish me luck on putting it to a stop!

MY NEW TONGUE TWISTER : FITFLOPS FIT MY FEET!
No, these are not my feet. If you know me well enough you'll know these CAN'T be my feet.
Ever since I learned how to buy my own shoes, I've had this challenge of finding the best footwear that could not only make my feet look decent, but make me feel good about them as well. You see, due to my sick habit of walking around the house barefoot ever since I was a kid, I developed flat feet. Not to mention my toes are a bit chubbier than usual that could separate themselves from one another. It's a skill that come in handy for me whenever I get pedicures, especially when I do them on my own. I can sometimes even pick things up using my toes too. Haha! The experiences that I've had with my feet have been a yoyo ride...from ingrowns, calluses, dead toenails (R.I.P. my pinky toenail) and many others, shopping for shoes became a mission and not just a simple visit to the mall.
I've been hearing about Fitflops for quite sometime now. I've had mine for 3 months I think. I have the same style as the one in the picture and as I look around, I'm happy that more people especially commuters have discovered what I found. It's the most comfortble footwear yet, and believe me I've tried quite a number of kinds of shoes. I even regret buying Havaianas because I don't use them that much anymore.
Here are just some of the activities that I am able to do flawlessly with Fitflops:
1. Watch a whole concert for 2 1/2 hours standing up
2. Run up and about during an international artists' promo tour
3. Go to the beach
4. Market at Balintawak palengke at 9:00 p.m.
5. Catch the MRT
6. Have a leisurely walk at La Mesa Dam Park
7. Drive from pasig, to makati to paranaque to cainta then back to Pasig
8. Organize a whole garage sale
and the list just goes on and on...
Fitflops never let me down. It's sturdy, comfortable, though a bit pricey. But when you do the math, it's well worth it! If I calculate it, I bought my pair last June...If I divide it by 3,000
(I forgot the exact price) with 90 days because I pratically use it everyday, I just spend 33 pesos a day and it gets cheaper the longer I use it. It truly is an investment.
I hope they distribute the other variands of Fitflops here in the Philippines. The boots, clogs, sneakers, everything. I'm not saying I'm going to buy them all. I actually won't because I plan and I know that I will be able to use my pair now for a looong looong time. I just want them to come out with more styles so more women like me who have trouble with their feet can finally find true happiness and comfort while walking, jumping or running with Fit Flop!

ON OPINIONS
I dawned upon this ridiculous comment on the page of Nak Muay Asian Thai Cuisine's fan page which I won't blurt out here anymore because it's not worth the time. I also read this article about MD Sterilizing and Disinfecting Solution that allegedly accused us of something that was so absurd, it was a pity that the writer was a respected journalist and judge for a major newspaper who didn't get his facts straight! If I had the money right now, I would sue them. But I don't, so out of respect and to make use of our resources more efficiently, I just deleted that petty lie from Nak Muay's page (the one who made the comment recieved a lengthy message from me and I also reported her account) and next week, I shall call that newspaper to put down that article from their website which is still searchable until now.
I am also guilty of stating my opinions when it is uncalled for but I don't broadcast them to the world like how those two people just did! Instead of using their time and resources to help others, they choose to grab the opportunity to step on the livelihood of other people. What a waste!
I may not know what their motives are. Maybe the girl who posted that comment on Nak Muay's page just didn't have anything good to do (I doubt that she even had the chance to eat at the resto) and maybe that journalist from the newspaper just wanted to increase readership of his column. Yet, regardless of why they did what they did, it just goes to show that most of us are careless often times with what we say, myself included.
I know that by ranting here, I'm not contributing as much and I'm just adding on to the negative energy of those two people so how about a shift in mood...
In five...four...three...two...one...
HERE ARE MY POSITIVE AND PERSONAL OPINIONS (that deserves respect) ABOUT NAK MUAY AND MD STERILIZING AND DISINFECTING SOLUTION THAT WOULD HOPEFULLY COMPENSATE FOR THE HARM THAT THOSE TWO PEOPLE DID
NAK MUAY ASIAN THAI CUISINE: My favorite thing about Nak Muay are the memories that it brings. It was indeed a journey to find the right spices and ingredients and to figure out the whole thing from scratch. I wasn't even 100% hands on in putting it up and yet, as I look back, I just can't help but smile. It even became a bonding experience for me, Van and his family. The funny thing is, eventhough I was there for the taste tests when we were building the menu, I still can't get enough of the dishes especially the noodles. Plus, I also love its spontaneity. I get to bump into friends and have dinner with them which are so unplanned like last time when I was able to have dinner with Arlene, Nouelle then came Elaine and Calde. There was also a time when Ina and Reggie came unexpectedly. I just love those moments. I also like it when me and Van plan to have our dinner there. Mind you, we also pay for our bill because business is business.
Looking at Nak Muay, I strongly believe it is very promising. If it were not then we won't have regulars who keep on coming back. Some even keep on ordering just one dish! We also noticed that the people who eat at Nak Muay are those who eat because of good taste and not just because they want to fill their belly. I'm excited for the things to come!
MD STERILIZING AND DISINFECTING SOLUTION: MDSDS is truly state of art. It was tested by the most well-respected organizations in the world that are GENUINE and my parents put in a lot of sweat and tears to have those tests and I'm very proud of what they've accomplished! The good thing about it is it really helps save a lot of lives. Imagine the lives that could've been saved from Dengue if only people were properly educated about how to get rid of mosquitoes. Insect repellants only get rid of the mosquitoes that are mature and flying already. They only REPEL mosquitoes and not KILL ALL of them. There are still thousands of mosquitoes left inside homes because of their eggs found in stagnant water. Spraying MDSDS regularly inside homes does the trick.
It's a shame how one respected person accused MDSDS as an excuse and opportunity for political scam, when the only thing running through the minds of the people who implemented dengue projects in the government that used MDSDS were the lives of the poeple who needed to be rescued from the dreaded disease.
So to those two people that didn't have anything good to say but still said it anyways and shared it to the rest of the world...I have three words for you...
I DARE YOU!
I dare you to eat at Nak Muay!
I dare you to try MD Sterilizing and Disinfecting Solution!
Then that's the time you can tell me what you think!

A TRIBUTE TO THE PRODUCT THAT HAS BROUGHT TO WHERE I AM NOW: Our family business - MD Sterilizing and Disinfecting Solution
MD Sterilizing and Disinfecting Solution is the invention of my father. It is the product that provided for almost all our basic needs and wants. It has put me and my siblings through kinder, grade school, high school, college and even when I graduated, it has provided for our basic necessities. Yet, aside from providing a livelihood for our family, MD/SDS has protected the country from various diseases and infection, especially the deadly and pandemic ones like SARS and Bird Flu. It has been saving not only our lives, but the lives of the majority as well.
To be honest, in an effort to make a life of my own, and I must admit, due to a little bit of pride, I once neglected finding ways to help our business. I ventured into several industries, from events, mobile phones, infant's milk, call centers, entertainment, etc. All of them did build my character and taught me experiences that I would forever cherish and yet, there was this voice inside of me, telling me that I had to contribute to MD/SDS. So, allow me to impart one of my contrbutions through this entry.
I did help in occassions where I was free. From making brochures, labels, and rarely going to product presentations, I thought it was enough. Yet, it's just now that I finally understood why MD/SDS was worth telling the world about.
I read through the research (and mind you, it was very thorough) that my sister, mom and dad did and boy was I surprised! Little did I know how MD/SDS could've helped a lot of lives both human, plant and animal.
It also had so many uses, I thought targetting the right people was going to be hard but the more I think I about it, anyone and everyone can spray a little of MD/SDS to their surroundings to keep them safe. My favorite characteristic of MD/SDS is that it can be sprayed anywhere and everywhere without harming the environment or myself. It can be sprayed around anyone, sick or healthy, old or newborn, etc. etc. Plus, no matter how dirty an area may look like, (i.e. dumpsites, fecal matter, etc.) it is still effective in killing harmful microorganisms.
I know I may sound like a horrible saleswoman now (NOTE: WOMAN NOT MAN! In doing cold calls for MD/SDS so many of the people I spoke with called me Sir PFFFFT) but I just need to express how impressed I was with MD/SDS that was right in front of me from the start!
It can help a lot of people. I thought before, only the government can use and abuse its uses but after further understanding of what it can do, even individuals and households can take advantage of its benefits.
Some examples:
1. Nursing students - especially those who are already taking their practicum, Doctors, Medical practitioners: A mask does not provide enough protection anymore. Being exposed to patients with contagius illnesses is very dangerous. For your uniform, you can soak it with MD/SDS after washing to make sure that your uniform is clear of germs. You can also place a foot bath (a door mat soaked with MD/SDS) at the entrance of your home so when you enter the house as you come from the hosiptal, you are sure that you don't bring in any harmful microorganisms.
2. Those who live with patients at home: Using different dilution ratios, MD/SDS can turn a simple bedroom into an ICU. You can sterilize food utensils used by your sick loved ones and you can also use MD/SDS to clean infected laundry. Also, ionizers which are very expensive can be replaced by MD/SDS by just spraying it inside the room where your patient stays.
3. Those who live with infants or babies: MD/SDS can be used to sterilize bottles and baby clothes. For your garbage disposals that contain soiled diapers, you can spray MD/SDS on your waste bins to prevent contamination before the garbage collector arrives.
4. Pet Owners: Sweeping the manure or mopping the urine of pets is not enough to ensure that the area is free of bacteria. I highly recommend spraying the area with MD or if not, mopping the area itself with MD/SDS. You can also spray MD/SDS on your pets' cages to ensure that its bacteria free
5. Smokers: Ever spray perfume or aerosols to get rid of the smell of smoke? MD/SDS does the trick! Just spray a diluted solution of MD/SDS on clothes, aircondition units, cars, rooms, etc. and the smell will go away after a few minutes. The problem with other deodorizers is that it only covers the stench. MD/SDS on the other hand, gets rid of the germs that cause the smell.
There are still so many uses of MD Sterilzing and Disinfecting Solution. I just can't place everything here because it is just WAY long. Bottom line is, anyone can use it to be protected. I am so sick of reactionary measures that people do (myself included sometimes) when dealing with health and safety. MD/SDS provides a proactive approach in preventing sickness from happening. As my dad would say, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".
I hope we can find a way to make MD/SDS accessible to everyone already since infection and bacteria are multiplying by the minute and it would be the noblest deed to help everyone be protected from these through what we offer.
I owe a lot to MD Sterilizing and Disinfecting Soluton because of what it provided me and my family. Yet, we as human beings owe the environment more in healing it and making it a safer and cleaner place to live in.
I'm proud to be the daughter of the man who invented a solution to our age old problem of high death tolls because of germs and pollution ...that man being none other than (drumrolls) my dad.

I FOUND THE PERFECT FORMULA TO CURE MY 2 DECADE OLD ILLNESS
Kuddos to whoever invented Loratidine. I was bed ridden today for half a day due to my violent sneezes and bulging eyes. I woke up at 9am because my mom asked me if I was going out. I felt my body shivering and cold perspiration running down my spine. I got up and drank some medicine which was my trustee Neozep. I woke up again (I forgot the time) because I wanted to sneeze...I got up and drank Loratidine and I slept again. I woke up and voila! My sniffles are almost gone and I felt my bed damp with perspiration. I'm feeling way better...
I don't know if it was Neozep of Loratidine that cured me but I guess it was the combination of both. I've been living with my terrible sniffles all my life and I've consulted an ENT about it and he said that there was really nothing to do except drink allergy or colds medicines whenever my nose is acting up.
I would always say, "sana natatanggal ko ilong ko at nalilinis ko sa lababo" when I have colds. I guess now, when I get to prove that this formula indeed works, I can say goodbye to that expression. It's no joke. I mean the people around me laugh when I sneeze too hard, some, even associate me already with my sneezes. I also have to apologize and say excuse me constantly for something that I didn't purposely do. It is no joke when you have colds and fever to match.
I guess I'm going to have to give myself another day before I am 100% cured. TO those who have clear noses now, you should call yourselves lucky. How I dread having icky snot running my nostrils subconsciously. Thank you once again to Neozep and Loratidine!

GARAGE SALE A SUCCESS!
The garage sale is over! Though bittersweet, it felt good to know that there are still ways of earning without getting too stressed. Finished cleaning our space together with Van and the rest of the team. All in all we were able to sell a decent amount. Not only that, some relatives and friends were also able to earn from the garage sale. There were still a number of items we weren't able to sell but given the time and the amount of stuff that we had, it was indeed successful. Not only were we able to offer items that are within the budget of almost everyone, we were also able to clean the house from the stuff that we don't use anymore.
It might take a lot of tedious work. Fixing and sorting out the things in the store was the main bulk of the work but it was all worth it. Of course, like any other business there are lean days but our average sales per day was P1,500 - P2,000 which was not bad. Not to mention the intangible riches that we acquired: time together, improved logical and mathematical skills, the discovery of one of the most delicious barbeques in QC, new friends, cleaner homes, improved communication and bargaining skills and many more.
We learned that price was a huge factor in garage sales as well as new offerings. When it was down to our last 3 days, we held a sale where we sold the clothes at 20 - 100 pesos except those that were given to us by friends. We also had some little freebies to give away. The freebies were also stuff that we didn't use anymore. It was funny how people still bargained with us for the items that were sold at 20 / 10 pesos. Close to the end, we just wanted to sell as much as we can so we didn't have to pack as much.
We still have some treasures left behind - especially gowns which will now be up for rental. If in case any of you would need one for any occassion, you may call 7821813. I also have several books and CD's on hand and I might just give them away. We also have a lot of clothes that are up for charity. If any of you want them, just simply leave a comment and let's see how I can hand them to you.
To cap off our project, Van and I had a trip to La Mesa Dam Ecopark and it was beautiful. It's comforting to know that there is still a sanctuary within the city where we can get to appreciate nature. We walked under the rain and enjoyed the view as we spoke about the future and all the little things in life that we learned to appreciate.
We also found out that earthworms are expensive! 1800 per kilo of icky worms who help the envorinoment by decomposing trash. They should just breed a humungous earthworm so that it can gobble up the world's trash and poop it out as fertilizer so we'll have more trees that can suck up the water when it's raining hard. The rain nowadays are crazy heavy.
I would like to thank Van and his family for sharing with me their space along shorthorn congressional avenue and for helping me and staying with me throughout the garage sale. I wish we sold more gowns though:( No worries, we'll work on the rentals. I would also like to thank my family, mom, dad, henrick, ate for filling up the store and for lending me the car. I woudl also like to thank my friends, namely Abby, Aspe and Clarice who participated as well. I have yet to return to you your stuff and your earnings.
For those who are currently doing one - good luck! :) For those who are putting up one - don't worry, once you have all of your stuff on display, selling will be a breeze:) For those who are planning to do one, Go! Go! Go! I highly recommend it!
Shorthorn won't ever be the same again:) Now, I bet everytime I pass by it, I'll say hi to some people and do a little smile on my face as I reminisce what has happened.
