The rich may say I don't know what I'm saying and just laugh at me because I don't have as much money as they do. The poor may say I also have no idea about what I'm talking about since I don't know what they've been going through to get some. I say, what they say doesn't matter... I just need to let this out and tell the world in my most convenient way possible that money is not everything...it's a THING! period.
A few questions:
Have you ever counted how many hours you spend to earn money?
Have you ever weighed the food you eat and end up wanting to vomit because you realized you just ate half your salary?
Have you ever looked at a nice signature top and charged it to your credit card and feel bad afterwards when you get your bill?
Have you ever saved up for a vacation to relax and end up stressed when you come back from it because of budgeting so hard because you used up all your savings during your well-deserved break?
Have you ever loaned a basic necessity and end up having sleepless nights because you have to pay for it on a regular basis and don't know how to?
Have you ever enumerated the things you do that involved money?
My guess is, you've answered yes to all these questions except the last one. My answer to the last question is a very embarassing NO - and if I enumerate the things I do that involve money, I would say a lot, even almost everything...what a pity.
Money has gone a long way. It started as commodity money to representative money until it morphed into different forms that are not known to all of mankind. Some may see money as just bills or coins. Some see it in businesses or investments. Some even see it in people or talents. A select few see it in evil deeds. It has become a neutral force that is easily tipped over to either the good side or the bad side by human emotion and desires.
DISCLAIMER: I use the word "WE" here losely...I'm not pointing to anyone or anything...
WE NEED MONEY
We all need money especially in this age. We need it for food, clothing and shelter. We need it to gain acces to life's ultimate conveniences like electricity, water, gas, etc. We need it to pay our medical bills when we grow old. We need it to secure our families day by day. We need it to retire and rest. We need it to survive through conformity. Because we see it as a necesity, we forget that money is just a choice for survival, when there are so many ways of living that only need a few of it, or if not, just enough. In some culutures, money is even irrelevant to survive.
WE WANT MONEY
We want money for different reasons. We want it for luxury. We want it for fame and power. We want it to live more easily, to taste the finer things in life. We want it to reach our material dreams of having a nice car, a big house, a swimming pool, signature clothes, etc. We want it so bad, we forget why we need it sometimes. Sometimes, we don't eat just so we can show off our brand new gadgets. Often times, we get mad at each other because of money matters because of our desire for it that we end up wasting chances of getting along and finding happier and more peaceful things to do. We lose opportunities to help each other because we are so busy wanting it.
BLESSING OR CURSE?
They say when you are rich, you are blessed. They say when you are poor, you are cursed. Blessings don't have mortal reasons behind them. It is already ready and divine for us to accept. No one in the world is cursed. If this were true then we won't have out of school youths who dream. We won't have YouTube sensations who become goodwill ambassadors. In our hearts we plan our course, but only the heavens can determine our steps.
QUANTITY VS. QUALITY
It's a shame that success and failure is often measured by quantity and not quality. It's a shame that the status of a person is determined by factors that need money to attain (i.e. good schools, mba's, work experience, etc.) If people were synthetically made in a factory, I wonder what our criteria and characteristics will be for us to be born. More money doesn't always mean more happiness. How you use your money sometimes may say what kind of person you are, but it will never ever define you. If I were to measure the quality of money, I would measure it in a way that sees how many lives have been brought closer to REAL HAPPINESS because of that single centavo.
IF ONLY...
If only all the money in the world can be used to pay good deeds forward, or to hold special unforgettable moments between individuals, then the world will definitely be a better place to live with. If only money can be gotten in ways that mold you into a better individual and gives you the chance to help more people which makes you happier in the process, then earning may be more worthwhile. If only money, no matter how much, will exist as a bonus and not a solution to challenges that are often solved by intangible things, then maybe, we would easily appreciate the brighter and simpler things around us.
MONEY doesn't make the world go round.
LIFE makes the world turn in ways that money can never do because it is LIFELESS.
